John Shymanski was born, raised and still resides in Iowa. From the earliest age, he was sketching the images that invaded his mind. Later, his medium became watercolor.

From the beginning, the artist's subjects were almost exclusively hollowed out homes and barns, places that are perfect to hide secrets and dark histories.

Each piece of work has a unique story that the artist feels as he paints. The stories all take place in a fictional town, Violet Falls.
